A bi-coastal swap of undesirable residents has come full circle with a California sex offender now in a Florida mental hospital and a Florida prostitute behind bars in California. Melanie Ann King, the often-arrested prostitute whose banishment to California prompted a Santa Barbara police chief to retaliate by sending a mental patient to Miami , is serving a day jail term in Los Angeles for prostitution, the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel reported Sunday.
Following King's 47th prostitution arrest in the Fort Lauderdale area, Broward Circuit Judge Robert Lance Andrews gave her a choice -- go to jail or accept a one-way plane ticket to California. Meanwhile, in Miami, Weston J. Hill is holding a space in Dodge Memorial Hospital, a psychiatric hospital where he has been confined since three police officers arrested him April 22 for throwing rocks at a church.
It was his second arrest since his arrival three weeks earlier, compliments of Santa Barbara taxpayers. Hill's first arrest in Miami came after he was spotted pulling down his see-through undershorts on a Miami street. I guess the chief out there did what he thought he had to do. Andrews said King, now 26, was examined at the Henderson Mental Health Center before he allowed her to leave the county with an order not to return for at least five years. There was hope that the convicted prostitute, who was allowed to leave Fort Lauderdale with her pregnant cat, would start a new life in a rehabilitation program in southern California.
While in Los Angeles, a millionaire befriended her and promised help if she would change her life. Even that didn't work. Own a piece of history! California police officers say that instead of reforming, King merely relocated her business.
